Big Wave Golden Ale is offered by Kona Brewing Co. based in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island in Hawaii, which coincidentally is where Pro Bowl Center Max Unger was born and raised. The beers are produced on the mainland at breweries in Portland, Oregon and Woodinville, Washington.
The company’s original beer was Pacific Golden Ale, but has since changed it’s name to Big Wave Golden Ale. The brewery has the slogan of “liquid aloha” and it holds true for their Big Wave Golden Ale.
I recently discovered this beer while visiting Hanalei, Kauai. Big Wave is excellent after spending a day at the beach surfing/snorkeling and pairs well with fish tacos; speaking from experience.
The beer is a “golden” style lager and has citric notes with a hint of hops. I find it best to be drank from a glass and not a bottle. This is definitely a hot weather beer. It has 4.4% alcohol. It can be purchased from QFC at a price of $7.99 a sick -pack.
If you are looking for a nice change of pace beer, give Big Wave Golden Ale a try.
