Where pride and passion for the Seattle Seahawks collide.

Never been to the VMAC for training camp? What to expect your first time.

Today marked the opening of Seahawks training camp at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC) located at 12 Seahawks Way, in Renton, Washington.  The Seahawks have opened a limited amount of practices for 12s to attend, all of which have been sold out.  Approximately 2,500 12’s were at today’s first practice.

It came as a shock to me that Wide Receiver Percy Harvin (#11) was listed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list due to a hip injury.  It was reported that Harvin was diagnosed with a torn hip labrum and may require surgery.  Troubling news, no doubt.

If you have never been to training camp, I want to provide you a run down on what to expect if you are going this year.  A line will be forming at least one hour before the start of practice at the The Landing in Renton, which is where you will be checked-in by Seahawks staff.  You will be provided a wrist bracelet to wear.  From there, you will be ushered to another line where you will await to board school buses and be shuttled to the VMAC.   The whole process is efficient and moves along in a timely fashion.  I suggest arriving early to ensure you don’t miss any of the action.

Upon arrival, you will more than likely be greeted by a pair of Sea Gals and possibly Taima the Hawk.

There will be a Sports Authority tent set up to sale you the latest Seahawks gear.  Last year there was a food cart vendor, but I never tried the grinds because the line was so long.

If you want to get the best seat available, put all of the above-mentioned attractions on hold and go secure your piece of real estate on the berm over-looking the practice field.  Then go hang out and get your picture taken with the Sea Gals.

The VMAC is along the shores of Lake Washington (I was able to run around the whole facility in April for the Seahawks 12K run).   You can sit on the berm to get an overall view of the practice or you can sit down close to the field if you want to be right next to the action.  You can always walk around and check out different areas of the field.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI have never stuck around after practice for autographs because there was so many 12’s clamoring for signatures.  I can only imagine how crazy it will be with the practices sold out.
