This Sunday the Seahawks return to Atlanta, the scene of a gut-wrenching and heart breaking loss to the Falcons in the divisional playoffs last year. The wounds are still healing from that day and have just started to scab over. After that loss, many of us 12s went to a very dark place, as captured in the video “Can’t Stop The Seahawks”:
After the 2013 schedule was released, every 12 circled the Week #10 match-up versus the Falcons as payback time. To exact revenge for that loss is not only our right, but an absolutely duty. So, I booked a flight to Atlanta and I am sitting in 21 C as I right this somewhere over the United States. For the players revenge could prove to be their own executioner. There is more to gain for this franchise and fan base this Sunday other than the sweet taste of vengeance.
The players will tell you this is not a revenge game. It is not about the Falcons, it is about them and how well they play. Just another opportunity to go 1-0. Secretly, I am sure some of them will no doubt go back to that dark place Sunday when walking out onto the turf of the Georgia Dome and will want revenge. It is good to have some hate in your heart, but not to the point to where it can cloud judgement. I don’t expect that to be a problem with this team because of head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Russell Wilson (#3).
The Battle of Atlanta is about the Hawks circling the wagons in order to get a 10 a.m. road win, which would in springboard themselves into the final leg of the season seeking a home playoff berth. As fullback Michael Robinson (#26) says, “All Hands on Deck!” because this is going to be a hard game, irregardless of the Falcons 2-6 record . It is uncertain at this time if center Max Unger (#60) will be calling the shots for an already banged up offensive line due to a concussion suffered in last week’s overtime thriller against the Buccaneers. Defensive end and team captain Red Bryant (#79) was concussed in the game against the Bucs and has not practiced this week. If both players can’t suit up, the game just got tougher.
